1. Scope and Controller
This policy applies to the Verdantfall website, browser game, account system, and related support tools. The Verdantfall operator is responsible for deciding how personal data is used. Privacy requests can be submitted through the homepage feedback channel.
2. Information Collected
Account data includes username, email address when provided, password hash, account identifiers, consent version, and account dates. Gameplay data includes character details, progression, inventory, economy activity, quests, combat, dungeons, guild and party activity, achievements, settings, and moderation status.
Social and support data may include chat, whispers, mail, friend activity, reports, feedback, moderation notes, and attachments or descriptions you submit. Technical data may include IP address, user agent, session identifiers, request timestamps, error reports, security events, and approximate server/zone presence.
3. How Information Is Used
Information is used to create and authenticate accounts, operate multiplayer gameplay, save progression, deliver requested messages and password resets, prevent abuse and fraud, investigate reports, enforce rules, maintain security, diagnose errors, balance the beta, communicate service changes, and meet legal obligations.
4. Legal Bases
Where European data-protection law applies, processing is based on performance of the service contract, legitimate interests in operating and securing the game, compliance with legal obligations, and consent where specifically requested. You may withdraw consent-based processing without affecting earlier lawful processing.
5. Cookies and Local Storage
Verdantfall uses an essential session cookie to keep you signed in and protect authenticated requests. Browser local storage saves interface, audio, tutorial, accessibility, and performance preferences. Verdantfall does not currently use advertising cookies or sell data for targeted advertising.
6. Sharing and Service Providers
Data may be processed by infrastructure providers that host the application and database, and by MailerSend when transactional emails such as password resets are requested. Information may also be disclosed when required by law, to protect rights and safety, to investigate abuse, or during a legitimate service reorganization subject to appropriate safeguards. Verdantfall does not sell personal data.
7. International Transfers
Service providers may process data outside your country. Where required, Verdantfall relies on adequacy decisions, contractual safeguards, or another lawful transfer mechanism.
8. Retention
Account and gameplay data is generally retained while an account is active and as reasonably needed to operate the beta. Security, moderation, transaction, backup, and legal records may be retained longer where necessary to prevent abuse, resolve disputes, protect the service, or comply with law. Password-reset tokens expire and are deleted or rendered unusable. Data is deleted or anonymized when it is no longer reasonably required.
9. Security
Verdantfall uses password hashing, authenticated sessions, access controls, transport encryption in production, rate limits, logging, backups, and moderation tools. No online system is completely secure, so use a unique password and report suspected compromise promptly.
10. Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you may request access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability, or objection to certain processing, and may complain to a data-protection authority. Identity verification may be required before fulfilling a request. Some records may be retained where legally required or necessary to protect other users and the service.
11. Children
Verdantfall is not intended for children under 13. If local law requires a higher age for independent consent, a parent or guardian must authorize use. If you believe a child provided personal data without required permission, submit a privacy request through the homepage.
12. Public and Social Features
Character names, titles, guilds, profiles, leaderboard positions, and public chat can be visible to other players. Avoid posting real-world personal information. Blocking and reporting tools do not necessarily erase records needed for safety or enforcement.
13. Policy Changes
This policy may be updated when features, providers, or legal requirements change. Material changes will be announced on the website or in game and the effective date will be updated.
14. Contact
Submit privacy questions or rights requests through the feedback tool on the Verdantfall homepage. Clearly label the request as "Privacy" and provide an email address where a private response can be sent.
